FiOS Football - Week #6 Summaries

By Paul Pearson

Big O at Scarlet Eagles
The Eagles were probably counting on strong Monday night performances from both Vince Young and Kenny Britt to erase a major Big O lead. Britt did get an early touchdown, and he wound up with 11 points, but when Young left the game with a knee sprain (and only 8 points), he took Britt’s numbers and the Eagles’ hopes with him. The Big O got big numbers from a pair of Houston Texans. Andre Johnson scored 29 points, and Arian Foster scored 27, to fuel a 122-104 victory for the Big O.

Pussy Galore and her Abrocats at Ninja Stars
The Dallas Cowboys may have lost to the Minnesota Vikings, but Tony Romo can take comfort in his dominant 32-point fantasy performance. His three touchdowns, combined with Steven Jackson’s 20 points, helped the Stars beat the Abrocats by a score of 105-71. David Garrard’s ugly, injury-shortened night produced only 2 points for the previously unbeaten Abrocats. In fact, the only Abrocat starter to find the end zone was TE Tony Gonzalez, whose two touchdowns led to a team-leading 16 points.

Bringers of Awesome at Suckawoodz
You never want to see a zero next to a fantasy player’s name, but the Woodz got nothing from Willis McGahee. Danny Woodhead carried the load for the Woodz with 18 points, but he would have had to stand on his head to give his team a shot at the Bringers, who got truly awesome results from two players in a 123-79 beatdown. Joe Flacco put up 31 points in a losing overtime effort for the Baltimore Ravens, while Jeremy Maclin, filling the void left by DeSean Jackson’s concussion, lit up the Atlanta Falcons to the tune of 38 points.

Ann-Tics at Baby Needs a New Pair of Shoes II
Those who live by the questionable Sunday night player sometimes die by the questionable Sunday night player. The Shoes got nothing from Donald Brown, who was scratched from the Colts-Redskins game, and paid the price in the form of a 105-95 defeat by the Tics. Matt Schaub’s 34 points in a comeback victory and Calvin Johnson’s 27-point production, much of it coming at the hands of a backup quarterback, had put the Shoes in a position to win. But the Tics got just enough from its lineup to survive. LaDainian Tomlinson led the way with 20 points, followed by Hines Ward with 16 in Ben Roethlisberger’s return to the Pittsburgh Steelers backfield.

Lovely & Talented at P Funk Tribe
This game was still a nail-biter when the Monday night game kicked off, but the Tennessee Titans defense/special teams proved to be too much for the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Titans’ 24 points made all the difference in a 115-98 Tribe victory. Both quarterbacks had their expected excellent outings (27 points for the Talented’s Eli Manning vs. 26 for the Tribe’s Aaron Rodgers). But James Ivory, an undrafted rookie, had an eye-opening afternoon for both the Tribe and the New Orleans Saints with his 24 points.

Scarlet Pack at WiFis and Bigger GBs
Some weeks, it would have mattered that the GBs got no points from its injured kicker. This was not one of them. Lawrence Tynes of the New York Giants did put up a donut for the GBs, but the Pack got too many points from far too many sources and overwhelmed the GBs by a score of 135-90. Peyton Manning led the way for the Pack with two touchdowns and 29 points. Greg Jennings contributed 27, while Brandon Marshall added 24. The best the GBs could muster was 23 points from Chris Johnson, who scored a touchdown well after his game was decided.

To the victor go the spoils at NM Agency
It’s one thing if your fantasy player is scratched at the last minute with a late injury. It’s another thing altogether if your player is healthy but doesn’t make a dent on the scoring sheet. This was the case for the Agency, which got no points from the untargeted Visanthe Shiancoe and wasted a 31-point outing by Drew Brees in a 110-89 loss to the Victors. Ryan Torain, the last running back standing for the Washington Redskins, put up 25 points for the appropriately named Victors. DeSean Jackson added 20 points, including a rushing touchdown and a receiving touchdown, before the Dunta Robinson hit that left him with a “severe” concussion.
