Brett M. vs. Double Secret Probation
In this matchup, steady trumped stellar. The top two scorers in this game played for the Probation – Arian Foster with 31.7 points and Eli Manning with 26.6. But the Probation also had to absorb 0 points from Brent Celek and 4.1 points from the usually reliable Andre Johnson. Brett had 7 players reach double digits in the 119.8-108.7 victory, while the Probation had only 5 players reach that mark. Michael Turner led the Brett scorers with 22.7 points in a game that gave the Atlanta Falcons the driver’s seat in the NFC South. Brandon Jackson scored 18.8 in a Sunday night pounding of the Dallas Cowboys that wound up costing Wade Phillips his job.
Lee H. vs. Buddy’s Watching You
Quarterback has often been called the hardest position to play in any sport, but a talented one can do great things for your team. Take Aaron Rodgers, whose 30.6 points in a Green Bay Packers victory made all the difference for Lee in a 93.9-59.7 victory over the Buddy’s. Each side had a donut in its starting lineup, though for different reasons. Lee had Austin Collie, who was carted off the field after taking a nasty blow to the head. The Buddy’s had Earnest Graham, who probably wishes LeGarrette Blount had stayed in Oregon. But Lee had a clear advantage in double-digit starters (5 to 2). The top Buddy’s scorer was Jacob Tamme, who scored 16.8 points and may end up being literally the last man standing in Indianapolis.
Squatter’s Rights vs. Meet the Mutts
Does anyone know if the Squatters simply forgot to set the lineup for this week? That would explain how they got hammered by the Mutts by a score of 84.6-36.2. The Squatters started three players on a bye week (Knowshon Moreno, Chris Cooley and Rob Bironas), along with a player who was inactivated before his game with a thigh injury (Donald Driver). As a result, the Mutts got enough points from its top two starters – Joe Flacco with 21.3 and Hakeem Nicks with 18.8 – to beat the Squatters. For the records, the Squatter starter who had the best day was Drew Brees, who scored 19.1 points.
Sharktopus vs. Jordan’s Bar Mitzvah Fund
Michael Vick announced his return to fantasy relevance by scoring 27.1 points in a surprising Philadelphia Eagles victory. But the real star of this show was Peyton Hillis, who scored a team-high 33 points in the Sharktopuses’ (Sharktopi’s?) 135.5-60.3 thrashing of the Funds. Six different Sharktopus starters cleared the 10-point threshold, versus only two for the Funds. Both sides had players score 0 points (the injured Antonio Gates for the Sharktopuses and the invisible Darrius Heyward-Bey for the Funds). Carson Palmer racked up a team-high 18.9 points for the Funds, but this team also had to deal with a 0.9 score for Carolina’s Steve Smith, who probably would give his right arm right now for a quarterback with a live arm.
Titans vs. Hoofhearted
After watching Philip Rivers throw for four touchdowns and accumulate 30.8 points in the process, the Titans actually could afford to leave the bye-week Tennessee Titans defense/special teams in the lineup. Rivers’ throws fueled a Titans 87.2-68.6 win over the Hoofs. The second-highest Titans scorer was Santonio Holmes, who got 11.4 points in the New York Jets’ overtime escape against the Detroit Lions. Speaking of the Jets, Mark Sanchez led the Hoofs scorers with 23.5 points, followed by the New York Giants defense/special teams with 13. Unfortunately, no other Hoof starter made it to double digits.
Team RamRod vs. Creeping Death
Some weeks, one strong performance isn’t enough to get your fantasy team a win. Sometimes you need four. The Death had four different players clear the 20-point line and beat the RamRods by a score of 136.1-119. Those four players were Adrian Peterson (with a team-high 26.4 points), Terrell Owens (26.1 points on Monday night), the New Orleans Saints defense/special teams (24) and Ahmad Bradshaw (21.2). The Death did have to live with a 1.3 point score for Calvin Johnson, who made a visit to Revis Island this week. The RamRods got their strongest performance from the Green Bay Packers defense/special teams, who never gave the Cowboys a chance Sunday night. The top offensive player for the RamRods was Peyton Manning, who scored an un-Peyton-like 14.7 points.
