Bush League - Week #9

by Chris Ryan

NY Mazmaniacs 89 vs. Deez Nunz 79
It came down to the Steelers defense outpointing Chad Ochostinko on Monday Night Football, as the NY Mazmaniacs got their fourth straight win, placing them in a four-way tie atop the standings. The great Peyton Manning was held to just 11 points, and while Brandon Jackson and Hakeem Nicks had nice little freakouts, the Pierre Garcon/Benjamin Watson combo produced just three points. Two things were working in the Mazmaniacs favor, though; Lawerence Tynes and the Steelers defense each had 11 points, and the opponent was Deez Nunz, otherwise known as the worst team in the league. Deez Nunz, who have now lost six consecutive games, got 25 points from Michael Vick and 24 from Michael Turner ... and pretty much nothing from anyone else. Ricky Williams (0), Brandon Marshall (2), and Ochocinco (1) were especially terrible.
A Lot Of Talk And A Badge 65 vs.  UGotBeat ByAGirl 64
In a must-win game for both sides, A Lot of Talk And A Badge did not, in fact, get beat by a girl in Week 8. Came pretty close though. Eking out a one-point victory over UGotBeat ByAGirl, TAAB had DeSean Jackson (20), Percy Harvin (12), and Steve Johnson (16) all sitting on the bench, while starters Patrick Crayton and Andre Johnson combined for 11 points. Luckily, Beat by a Girl was decimated by byes and injuries (Mojo, Joseph Addai, Donald Driver, and Kyle Orton were all unavailable this week). Joe Flacco did his part by scoring 18 points, but no of the other skill players hit double-digits, with Brent Celek and Robert Meachem combining for one point.
Birch Boys 72 vs. Team Money Men 51
Team Money Men were anything but in Week 8. Josh Freeman and Cedric Benson were the only double-figure scorers, and accounted for over half of Team Money Men's league-low 51 points. Not much else to say, the right players were started, they just sucked (the Austin Collie injury certainly didn't help). Without much of a challenge, the Birch Boys did just enough to get the victory. Drew Brees was decent in scoring 15 points, and Rashard Mendenhall had a big MNF showing, scoring a team-high 18 points. Braylon Edwards and Donald Brown each chipped in nine to help the Birch Boys get back on the winning track.
LA Arsonists 92 vs. Team ThirdBall 85
The LA Arsonists hoped on the burly back of Peyton Hillis and rode the Browns bruiser to 33 points, helping him defeat Team ThirdBall in a hotly contested battle between two potential playoff teams. Mike Wallace's 18 points on MNF proved to be the difference, as the Arsonists entered the night down 11. Had to be a painful experience for the owner of Team ThirdBall. Philip Rivers was his usual great self, pacing TTB with 27 points, and Jacob Tamme and Santonio Holmes each had double-digit outings. Unfortunately, Roddy White's balky knee and Miles Austin's awful teammates led to down games for the studs, and probably were the main culprit in ThirdBall's loss.
Team Redman 122 vs.  Don't Come In Here 99
Team Redman had monster day, scoring a league-high 122 points. Terrell Owens led the way with 28, and only BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Jeremy Shockey didn't reach double-digits (and Shockey probably would have had he not been in the hospital the entire second half). Trouble could be on the horizon for the first place squad, though. Tony Romo is still out with a snapped clavicle, and backup QB Matthew Stafford injured his shoulder yet again on Sunday, leaving Team Redman with nary a healthy QB on their roster. Thanks to huge days from Adrian Peterson (26) and the Saints defense (21), Don't Come In Here actually led 99-94 heading into Monday night, but T.O. shut the door relatively quickly, allowing team owner Stuart Rosen the opportunity to go to bed rather than sweat it out until midnight. I'm sure he would have rather had a win.
Upstate Flavor!!!! 101 vs. Morgan Dollar 99
In a battle of league heavyweights, the 6-2 Morgan Dollar met the 5-3 Upstate Flavor!!!! The Flavor found themselves trailing 99 to 41 with four players left to play heading into the Sunday night matchup between the Cowboys and Packers. Aaron Rodgers did what he does, putting up 27 points, and Roy Williams did what he does, registering a goose-egg. That left Jason Witten and the Packers defense to pick up the slack. Witten was relatively quiet, scoring just four points, but the Green Bay defense had a freakout of epic proportions, picking off two passes, forcing two fumbles, registering four sacks, and finally, much to chagrin of Morgan Dollar, returning an INT for a late touchdown. The final result was 29 points for the unit, and a much needed two point victory for Upstate Flavor!!!!
