3YKFFL: Coming Down the Stretch

Head to Head: Fienberg Draws Even with Chaiken
With the final two playoffs spots up for grabs, Fienberg took down his NFC Division rival Chaiken, likely seizing the postseason berth and making a solid play for the third seed.
You want to win? Take advantage of your matchups! Matty Ice facing a sleepless Seattle secondary – no problem. Ryan burnt ‘em for three scores. Steven Jackson against the Chiefs – see you in the end zone! The Daily Show teeing off against ‘Zona – mark him down for 137 yards rushing.
On the other hand, it was a much sadder story for Chaiken. The wide-outs forgot to call in sick, as Over the Dwayne Bowe and Sidney Rice combined for a doughnut, and Fred Jackson was held in check while King Felix Jones bested the ‘Skins for a dime. A game-high total by Peyton Manning easily went wasted.
The wins puts Fienberg tied with Chaiken, both owning up to 8-7 records heading into the final two games of the season. Chaiken owns the head-to-head matchup due to point total, but one slip-up down the stretch could be the difference.
Goldstone Flailing Out of Contention
Well, Goldstone may sit fifth in a four-team race. But that does not mean he should be quitting down the stretch, does it?
Hot on a two-game losing streak, Goldstone made his best attempt without Aaron Rodgers, had more than just a concussed quarterback to fret over. While the matchups favored Maurice Jones-Drew and Matt “I’m a man I’m” Forte, reserves Cedric the Entertainer Benson outdid them both with an unforeseen 21 points. I guess Cincy remembered they had a running back. Also, the reinsertion of Mike Sims-Walker into the Jags’ lineup would have easily bested a doughnut from Hines Ward; was he even on the field Sunday?
For Berman, at 6-9, there is no other joy but play the role of spoiler. Ray Rice and Jamaal Charles tore assholes up Sunday, combining for 63 points. This is what fantasy owners have waited to see out of Rice all season – too bad for Goldstone that he waited until Week 15 to wreak havoc.
It will take a strong finish and a pot full of luck for Goldstone to end the year as a playoff team, but hey – it is fantasy football; anything can happen.
Meyers Dominants Steele in Upset Special
I have heard of resting your players before the playoff games…just not for fantasy football. Perhaps that was Steele’s strategy when he got pummeled from behind by Meyers, despite Adrian Peterson’s last-second absence from the lineup.
I guess you could say Pierre Thomas took the week off, too, as he was just as effective as Peterson. Fortunately, before Philly could shock the G-Men Sunday, Eli Manning did have an unnoticed four-score game, with Hakeem “The Dream” snapping one of them. The return of Kenny Britt was well-appreciated, as was Drew Stanton’s impressive chemistry with Megatron. This is a dangerous threesome at wide-out in the playoffs.
Steele’s team was in trouble the second Arian Foster went down, and Michael “The Burner” Turner finally got his engines cooled in Seattle when the Falcons looked to Matty Ice to pave the way. It did not help when Reggie Wayne got blanked against the Jags, and Pierre Garcon’s and his doughnut got the start over both V-Jax (25) and Brandon Lloyd (9). Good planning…not.
The win puts Meyers at six wins, but more appropriately but Steele’s playoff-bound team in question. Where is the consistency?
