Six Remain, Two More Prepare to Go
It’s playoff time! The first round is upon us, and with NE Deepthreats and Bruise Brothers earning the top two spots and a bye, there’s but two games on the docket this week. Let’s take a look who is set to advance, and who can start preparing for next year.
#3 SF Hall of Justice (6-5-1) vs. #6 Dynasty 3D (6-6)
It wasn’t that long ago these two teams met up in a crucial matchup ripe with playoff implications. And it wasn’t that long ago that Dynasty 3D laid a whooping on the Hall of Justice, 107-58. With a whole bunch of marbles on the line, let’s take a look at how they stack up this time around.
Quarterbacks: Joe Flacco vs. Philip Rivers
-Flacco has been steady all year, and great of late, but nobody is better than Rivers. Plus he gets an Oakland secondary with a banged-up Nnamdi Asomugha, while Flacco faces the Steelers.
ADVANTAGE: SF Hall of Justice
Running Backs: Adrian Peterson/Mike Tolbert/LeGarrette Blount vs. Mojo/Felix Jones
-The Adrian Peterson injury couldn't have come at a worse time. The Bills run defense is terrible, and a healthy AP could have run for 200-plus yards. No telling if he'll play, and if he does, how limited he'll be. LeGarrette Blount is a nice fill-in, but the matchup isn't that friendly. Mojo has been great of late for the Hall of Justice, and Felix Jones has a great matchup against Indy.
ADVANTAGE: SF Hall of Justice
Wide Receivers: Roddy White/DeSean Jackson vs. Wes Welker/Santonio Holmes
-Roddy White is an unquestioned top 3 WR in the league, and Jackson could be in store for a monster game against Houston. Welker and Holmes aren't too shabby, but Welker could be limited by the Jets secondary.
ADVANTAGE: Dynasty 3D
Tight End: Vernon Davis vs. Visanthe Shiancoe
-Davis hasn't done much of late, and Troy Smith will be hard to trust against Green Bay. Shiancoe, meanwhile, has been coming on strong and draws the Bills.
ADVANTAGE: Dynasty 3D
Prediction: It all depends on the Peterson injury. If he suits up and can move at close to 85%, he'll post more than enough points to keep Dynasty in the game. If he misses the game, or produces a plopper of a performance, Hall of Justice will waltz away with a victory.
#4 Yorktown Gunners (6-5-1) vs. #5 Team 3rd and Goal (7-5)
-met all the way back in Week 3 with the Gunners coming away with a 94-92 victory when Aaron Rodgers and Jermichael Finley came up just short on Monday Night Football...
Quarterbacks: Peyton Manning vs. Aaron Rodgers
-It's a battle of heavyweights at the QB position. The struggling Manning faces a surging Cowboys defense at home, while the not-so-struggling Rodgers gets a surging 49ers defense at home. Logic says Rodgers will outpoint his elder, but the tundra promises to be frozen, which can always wreak havoc on the passing game. It'll be nice and toasty inside Lucas Oil Stadium for an angry and determined Manning.
ADVANTAGE: Yorktown Gunners
Running Backs: Michael Turner vs. Ahmad Bradshaw
-With Brandon Jacobs still starting, Bradshaw's value is severely limited. He's still a nice play, but nowhere near the studly Turner. Help could be just a click away for 3rd and Goal, though. Toby Gerhart would be a must-start if Peterson doesn't go.
ADVANTAGE: Yorktown Gunners
Wide Receivers: Braylon Edwards/Dez Bryant/Steve Johnson vs. Steve Breaston/Miles Austin/Mike Williams
-Edwards and Bryant are looking to bounce back from disappointing games, and Steve Johnson is looking to exact his revenge on God. Those are powerful motivators. Austin could certainly post huge numbers, but Kitna has targeted Bryant much more frequently.
ADVANTAGE: Yorktown Gunners
Tight End: Marcedes Lewis vs. Rob Gronkowski
-Each is always a threat to score, but Lewis has little competition, and has proven more reliable over the course of the year.
ADVANTAGE: Yorktown Gunners
Prediction: Unless Aaron Rodgers can put up another 40 points and Manning gets stifled by the Cowboys, the Gunners look to be a heavy favorite to move on to face the top seeded NE Deepthreat.
